Pastor Benny L. Powell Sr. Biography
Reverend Benny L. Powell Sr. was called into the ministry at the age of 32 with his formal training in the ministry beginning under the guidance and leadership of Pastor Harold Johnson, at Kingdom Door Christian Worship Center.
He received his license to preach the Gospel in May of 2000. Reverend Benny L. Powell Sr. was later was ordained under the leadership of Rev. Allen A. Walker, pastor of Shiloh Baptist Church, Ft. Wayne Indiana in December 2011.
He attended St. Francis University where he studied courses relating to ministry and later transferred to Taylor University in Fort Wayne, Indiana where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Pastoral Ministry; with a minor in Biblical Counseling in relationship to Social Work.
He later attended Liberty Theological Center where he received a Masters of Arts degree in Pastoral Counseling, majoring in Mental Health and Addictions. Reverend Powell is a Licensed Clinical Addiction Counselor, Certified Addiction Counselor; Certified in the States of Indiana, Illinois and Iowa. He is also certified in Marriage and Family Therapy.
Reverend Powell accepted the position as Pastor to Temple Baptist Church in December of 2011. He is currently employed at Unity Point Health System in Rock Island, Illinois as a counselor and is currently pursuing a Psy. D. Psychological Christian Counseling at the Graduate Theological Foundation.
He has been married to Linda Williams Powell for 29 years. They have four children, Benny Jr., Destiny, Levelle, and Cherish, in addition to six beautiful grandchildren.
Pastor Powell served from December 2011 and resigned from Temple Baptist Church August 2015.
